2008 BMW E61 535xi hybrid turbo build
Owner sloweste9x documented a professional hybrid-turbo build on a 2008 BMW E61 535xi wagon, then reported an ATF-line disconnection and transmission damage during early driving.

The project and workshop build
sloweste9x chose a 2008 E61 535xi wagon with a six-speed automatic for snowy mountain commutes and carrying outdoor gear. A severe valve-cover-gasket leak brought it to Northeast Autobahn; he reported oil igniting after a few minutes of idling. At the shop, compression measured 90–110 psi dry and 115–120 with oil. He entrusted the AWD automatic 5-series project to Max Cabrera rather than attempting it himself as he had with his earlier RWD manual E92. The account documents RB Next Gen+ turbos, preparation of a replacement engine including oil-pan and valve-cover-gasket work and intake cleaning, and a VRSF 7.5-inch intercooler. He said fitting the intercooler required fan-shroud trimming and transmission-cooler-line rerouting. He valued the stock suspension's daily-driver comfort; a full wrap, wheels and coilovers were plans.
Engine preparation
Early driving and transmission damage
The owner first reported the car running and driving, with fueling and tuning next. After about 170 miles he smelled ATF, saw a gear-indicator warning and found a major leak at an OEM push-lock fitting above the intercooler outlet. He distinguished that location from the AN fittings and oil cooler, reconnected the line and asked whether the transmission had survived. In the July 18 update, he reported that the disconnection and acute ATF loss had damaged the pump, torque converter, clutch A drum, mechatronics and seals. The owner and shop chose a replacement transmission; coding, adaptations and XHP setup were still to be done at that point. The account does not establish why the connection released or show a verified preventive fix. Reconnecting the fitting was not the end of the reported damage.
Later fuel-system and trim work
In August, the owner reported fitting a low-pressure fuel pump with another mechanic and adding black grilles and front-bumper trim. He described more consistent fuel pressure, which remains his own observation. A full wrap, wheels and coilovers were still being considered. These later updates do not provide verified final tuning figures or long-term transmission results.
