1984 Mercedes 500 SEC two-tone wrap and interior build

Durranic changed his green 500 SEC with black trim, a satin pearl-white wrap and matte-black roof, then fitted H&R lowering springs. His interior and custom trunk work were still in progress.

A gradual owner project

Owner durranic introduced the car as his 1984 500 SEC, bought on eBay about a year and a half earlier. He worked on it roughly once a week, sometimes once every two weeks, and documented the exterior changes alongside the interior work he was still undertaking.

Black trim and a white-and-black wrap

He first changed the bumpers and side moldings from their tan-gray color to black. He then wrapped the green body in satin pearl white and made the roof matte black for a two-tone appearance. In a later reply he clarified that the green remained underneath the wrap; this was not a reported repaint of the whole body.

Lowering springs instead of the planned air suspension

The author had considered air suspension and said he already had the parts, but had not found time to learn the welding he wanted to do himself. He fitted H&R lowering springs instead. At the time of the post he said they had not settled fully, so the photographs do not establish a final settled ride height or a measured handling result.

The interior remained a work in progress

His intended interior combined black leather with platinum-white suede seats and diamond inserts, black doors, dashboard and rear seat panels, plus suede on the roof, pillars and rear deck. He said he had photographs of the suede rear deck and B-pillars while the rest was still being worked on. In a reply he described using vinyl-and-fabric paint on the panels and liking its initial finish; no long-term durability result was supplied.

A custom trunk still underway

He also described reworking the trunk to a custom design. This account ends with the interior and trunk project still underway. It does not document completion of the whole build, installation of the planned air suspension or long-term results of the materials used.
