Porsche 993 repaint and custom interior

Rennlist member Rhino describes a summer and fall project on his 993, including a full exterior repaint with Glasurit paint, a custom interior with Austrian leather, pigskin-look vinyl areas in the doors, German-weave carpet and new seals, and a rebuilt audio installation integrated into the armrests. He names Body Styles for the paint and Finish Line in San Jose for the interior. This is an individual owner account; the exact model year, trim, engine and total cost remain unspecified.

Project scope

Rhino describes the work as a learning experience that was worth the effort. His first post lists a full exterior repaint using Glasurit paint, a custom interior in Austrian leather, German-weave carpet, new rubber seals and weather stripping, and a new Morel speaker system with two Alpine amplifiers and a receiver. He says the armrests were rebuilt to house two 6-inch subwoofers.

Interior details

Rhino clarifies that the pigskin-look areas in the doors are vinyl, retaining some of the original appearance; he says the dashboard is leather. He says the seats use two types of leather and that the team took time to find black leather that matched the tan. He identifies Finish Line in San Jose as the interior shop and says the work took about three months, including changes he requested along the way.

Paint and audio work

Rhino says Body Styles painted the car. For the audio installation, he later explains that Byron Robeck at Finish Line designed custom side armrest speaker enclosures, each holding a 6-inch subwoofer. Rhino says he and Robeck wanted to keep the rear seats and avoid placing a subwoofer on the floor behind the front seats. His description of the appearance and sound is his personal assessment.

Owner follow-up

Rhino later reports driving the car with the iPod for a while before switching it off to listen to the engine. He also mentions lighting changes and blue LED lights in the dashboard, which he enjoyed while driving at night. These are additional owner-reported upgrades, not results of the repaint or interior work.

A later drive photograph

In a later post, Rhino shared photographs with the note that he was heading out for a Saturday drive down Highway 1. The photograph here shows the black 993 outdoors, viewed from above. It records the car’s later appearance; it does not show the repaint or interior installation process or establish the durability of those earlier changes. The exact model year, trim, engine specification and total project cost are not stated.

Another owner’s carpet choice

Commenter Jlaa said he had considered square-weave carpet for his own interior but used silverknit instead because its stretch made installation easier for him as an amateur. This is a separate owner’s experience; it does not identify the carpet manufacturer or installation method used in Rhino’s car.
