Front replacement and rear-glass reuse

geolab described removing the front and rear glass of his 993 while preparing the body for repainting. He planned a new front windscreen and reuse of the original rear glass, with rust treatment around both openings. He emphasized preparation of the cutting tool and reported that his own removal left no scratches. That individual outcome is not a guarantee that another removal will avoid damage.

Frame preparation and a coating clarification

The author’s follow-ups describe removing the remaining adhesive, exposing the frame metal, treating it and applying primer before paint.

Two different coating surfaces

IXLR8 clarified that his question concerned the primer beneath the body paint; geolab had initially answered about a narrow coating at the glass edge. Those are different surfaces. This discussion does not establish a specification for glass bonding or coating compatibility.

A reply distinguished observed rust from its possible cause

Luftd993 asked whether rust began at spot welds, citing rust on his own rear shock towers and engine-compartment edge. geolab replied that he had not seen rust on his windscreen pinch welds and found none beneath the firmly bonded original urethane. He separately described four small rust spots beneath the front luggage-compartment seal. His suggestion about standing water was explicitly uncertain, not a demonstrated manufacturing cause or a universal 993 rust pattern.

A reply asks about the cut-out beside the glass

IXLR8 included this photograph while asking whether the cut-out in the windscreen support was for antenna wiring. Neil Perry replied that the front-windscreen radio antenna wire passes through it and connects behind the clock. This is a separate commenter clarification alongside the author’s removal record.
